This 2016 tweet about being an LGBT ally has come back to haunt Donald Trump

What a difference a year makes.

THIS AFTERNOON, PRESIDENT Donald Trump sent a series of tweet announcing a ban on transgender individuals serving in the military.

“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow……” he began.

….Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming…..
….victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you

In June 2016, the US announced it was lifting a ban on transgender people serving in the military.

Trump’s announcement that he was implementing the ban once more was met with widespread disgust and condemnation.

Following the announcement, people rooted through Trump’s old tweets and unearthed a tweet from last year in which he positioned himself as an LGBT ally. (The tweet was sent in the aftermath of the shooting in Pulse Nightclub, Orlando, in which 49 people lost their lives.)

File under: tweets that have not aged well.

Many were quick to point out that the inherent contradiction.

While others highlighted how utterly meaningless the promise was.

Another tweet to come back to haunt him, eh?
